Mandafofanda Reads Lots

The world isn't just the way it is. It is how we understand it, no?

And in understanding something, we bring something to it, no?
Doesn't that make life a story?

- Yann Martel, Life of Pi

Looking for Alibrandi - Melina Marchetta If there's any book that I've read that can describe being the born-in-this-country kids of two generations of immigrants, it's this one. There's so many parts in this book that I'm like yes, this! so true! that even though Josie is crazier and brasher and willing to speak her mind without restraints than I am, her thoughts and worries and problems were so familiar to me.

Also, totally reminded me of THIS: Shit Asian Moms Say (my own mom is actually pretty modern herself, but aunts, grandmas, family friends...)
